LHC moved against Ownership of Property Act

LAHORE: Two citizens have approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) against the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Act, 2025. The LHC has already suspended the operation of the committees constituted under the new law. The petitioners Abdullah Malik and Munir Ahmed through their counsel contended that granting administrative authorities in property-related cases under the new law is unlawful and unconstitutional. They said that transferring jurisdiction from civil courts to the administration undermines the established judicial framework. The petitioners therefore asked the court to declare the Act as null and void. They also sought reversal of all proceedings initiated under the new law. They also called for an immediate suspension of the functioning of committees and tribunals constituted under the Act. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
