'Extremely painful' - Residents watch as Israeli army demolishes homes in West Bank's Tulkarm

"Israeli forces demolished several homes on Wednesday in the Nur Shams refugee camp, near the city of Tulkarm, as part of operations in the northern West Bank. Footage shows Israeli military bulldozers tearing through residential buildings as residents stand nearby watching the demolitions unfold. Yasser Al-Sais, a resident of Nur Shams camp, said the community was reeling from the scale of the operation. “The shock today is even greater when you see the bulldozers demolishing our homes and those of our neighbours and loved ones. It is an extremely difficult and painful decision,” he said. Israeli authorities had earlier issued demolition orders for 25 buildings, comprising more than 100 housing units, within the camp. Many of the affected families had already been displaced during previous Israeli military operations in the area. Last week, the Supreme Court of Israel upheld the army’s decision to carry out the demolitions, saying the measure would “facilitate future military movements inside the camp.” Tensions have remained high across the West Bank since October 7, 2023. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 759 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers during this period. Official Israeli figures say more than 26 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks in the West Bank over the same timeframe."
