MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the waters off Davao Occidental on Thursday, the first day of 2026, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. Phivolcs recorded the earthquake at 10:56 a.m., 231 kilometers (km) southeast of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.
