Filipino trafficking victims brought home

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in Yangon repatriated nine Filipino human trafficking victims (HTVs) who were saved from scam hubs in Myanmar. The victims had been under the custody of the embassy following the crackdown on scam compounds in Myawaddy in October 2025. The embassy, in coordination with Myanmar authorities, brought home the Filipinos on Dec. 28, allowing them to spend the new year with their families. It reiterated its warning to Filipinos wanting to work abroad to "exercise vigilance and to refrain from accepting overseas employment offers without first verifying job orders with the Department of Migrant Workers." The embassy said it "remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of overseas Filipinos and to providing timely assistance to those in distress."
