CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City recorded firecracker-related injuries and a string of road accidents, assaults, medical emergencies, and fires within the first hours of New Year’s Day 2026. As of noon on Thursday, January 1, the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC), chaired by Councilor Dave Tumulak, reported a total of nine firecracker-related injuries in the city. Most of the victims were minors, aged between 7 and 13 years old. Males accounted for the majority of cases.
