MANILA, Philippines — Makati City and North Caloocan’s air quality on New Year’s Day reached “emergency” level, data from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) showed. In its air quality index as of 2 p.m. on Thursday, DENR-EMB reported that Makati and North Caloocan’s ambient air quality values were both 301. Under an emergency level, the DENR said everyone should remain indoors. Keeping windows and doors closed is recommended unless heat stress is a concern.
