30.5 metric tons of smuggled betel nuts seized

KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Gadani has seized 30.5 metric tons of smuggled betel nuts of foreign origin along with four passenger buses near Ashok Pump, District Hub. According to the FBR, the operation was carried out on a tip-off that led to the deployment of a customs enforcement team at the spot to verify the veracity of the information. During an initial reconnaissance of the area, the enforcement team assessed the likelihood of resistance and potential security risks. In view of the prevailing situation, assistance from the Frontier Corps (FC) and local Police was requisitioned to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the operation. Upon arrival at the location, the team found the suspected buses parked as reported. As law enforcement personnel moved in, a mob gathered, creating disorder and disturbance. During the ensuing scuffle, the drivers of the buses managed to flee the scene. However, the situation was brought under control through the coordinated efforts of Customs, FC, and Police. Later, the seized vehicles were immediately taken into custody and shifted to the customs warehouse Gadani for a detailed examination that led to the recovery of 30.5 metric tons of smuggled betel nuts.
