MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 quake hit the waters off Davao Occidental on Thursday, January 1, 2026. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the quake at 10:56 a.m., 231 kilometers (km) southeast of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.
