Govt peace initiatives go full blast in 2026

THE Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (Opapru) has reaffirmed its commitment to hastening the implementation of the Marcos administration’s peace process plan this year. “The peace dividends that we are now reaping today have been made possible through our collective efforts. It is our hope that this year will once again be filled with milestones as we continue to sustain and build on the gains of peace across our country,” Opapru Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said. He thanked the government’s peace partners and stakeholders for their support of the endeavor. “Let us carry the lessons of 2025 and look ahead to the future with renewed optimism, passion and purpose. Once again, we wish everyone a happy and blessed New Year,” Galvez said. Created through an executive order in 1993 and originally known as the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (Opapp), Opapru is the government arm tasked with managing, directing, integrating and supervising the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Process, including initiatives that promote and reinforce national reconciliation and unity. Opapru’s role was expanded in 2025 when it became a national peace institute, bestowed with the responsibility of gathering data for the advancement of peace education nationwide.
