"Volunteers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat (AMJ) cleaned the streets of Berlin on Thursday morning after overnight New Year's celebrations, continuing the group's annual community service project. Footage shows members sweeping public streets, collecting firework debris and filling dozens of bags of rubbish in a coordinated push to tidy up the city. Although a long-standing tradition, the group hopes this years initiative will highlight the contributions migrants make to the city, following comments made by Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the CDU chairman Jens Spahn. "Merz said that there is a problem with the cityscape. His colleague Spahn, said that this is all connected to the Arab-Muslim cultural sphere around Sonnenalle. We are here on Sonnenallee now, on the day when the cityscape looks it worst. I would tell him, come here and join us," remarked Scharjil Khalid, Imam of the AMJ movement. A volunteer added that "Migrants are not part of the problem here, but part of the solution, and that’s what I want him to see. I want him to join us here and clean our city, Berlin, with us." Spahn has been criticised for claiming Germany had a 'problem with Arab-Muslim culture' as well as calling for 'physical force' to be used against migrants. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is a miniority religous movement in Germany, recognised for its views on social integration and unique legal status. The group has around 45,000 to 55,000 members across the country."
