LAHORE: The Punjab government is preparing a law to prevent incidents of children falling into manholes and other related accidents in Punjab. This was disclosed during a meeting chaired by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin here on Thursday. Punjab Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal and the heads of the Water and Sanitation Authority Punjab, Parks and Horticulture Authority, and Water and Sanitation Agencies were also present. On this occasion, the Punjab Housing Secretary briefed participants on the department’s annual performance and development plans for the New Year. Moreover, recommendations were reviewed regarding ensuring survey and monitoring at the tehsil level within 15 days by Deputy Commissioners of all districts. While addressing the meeting, the Minister stated that ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ is the best scheme in the country’s history, under which 125,000 families benefited from interest-free loans during the past year. He added that 60,000 houses have been completed, 65,000 are under construction, and within two months, the number of completed houses will exceed 100,000. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
