"Colombian President Gustavo Petro reported on Thursday that the country's Naval and Air Forces have seized four tonnes of cocaine. Petro announced the operation carried out in waters near the city of Cartagena, in the Colombian Caribbean, via his official X account. In a message accompanied by a video, Petro was quick to stress that the seizure of what he described as 10 million doses was made without death or injury. He explained that the operation was carried out following intelligence work and maritime and aerial tracking, which made it possible to locate the vessel and secure the drugs before they left national waters. The crew members were placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities for prosecution. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the shipment and dismantle the criminal structures linked to the cargo. The seizure comes amid a tense diplomatic standoff between Washington and Bogota. Days earlier, US President Donald Trump declared that Colombian President Gustavo Petro is "producing a lot of drugs", stating that there are ‘cocaine factories’ in the country which ship the drug directly to the US. Meanwhile, Petro had defended his administration regarding security and the fight against drug trafficking. He noted that there have been 1,446 armed clashes with organised crime groups and 13 bombings, amid shared intelligence support aimed at dismantling drug producers and locating their leaders."
