Starry Lee, Ronick Chan in race for top Legco job

Two veteran lawmakers are going head to head in the race to be the legislature's next president following the end of the nomination period for the top job on Friday. Starry Lee of the DAB and finance-sector representative Ronick Chan both submitted their bids to the Legislative Council secretariat before the 5pm deadline. The candidates will present their platforms and take questions from fellow lawmakers at a special forum on Thursday, with the vote set to follow shortly after that. Lee, the city's sole delegate to the National People's Congress Standing Committee, joined Legco in 2008 and has since been re-elected four times. Chan, a deputy to the National People's Congress and a Bank of China (Hong Kong) adviser, was first elected in 2016 to represent the financial sector.
