Electricity production at Olkiluoto 2 (OL2) nuclear power plant remained suspended from Friday morning due to a fault detected in the reactor, said the owner of the plant Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) in a press release. The power generation was stopped at 10:59 a.m. when a software update to the reactor power control system was carried out at the plant unit. During the update, a fault occurred, resulting in a reactor trip. A reactor trip is a safety function in which the nuclear reaction in the plant unit is automatically shut down and electricity production is interrupted. The incident, however, has no effect on nuclear safety. The Olkiluoto 1 (OL1) and Olkiluoto 3 (OL3) plant units continue in normal production operation, said TVO.
