Bangladesh mourns - Special prayers held nationwide to honour late fmr PM Khaleda Zia

"Mourners and supporters held special prayers across mosques in Bangladesh on Friday to seek eternal peace for the country’s former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Footage in Dhaka shows mourners listening to sermons led by imams and observing prayers. "We prayed that Allah would make Khaleda Zia and Ziaur Rahman residents of paradise. They both have done a lot for the country," said Mohammad Mohsin. Advocates of the three-time prime minister expressed support for Zia's son, Tarique Rahman, as the next leader of the country. "We want Tarique Rahman to follow the path of his parents and do something better. We prayed that Bangladesh would be run in a fair and normal way. Tarique Rahman, or whoever comes to power, may Allah keep our country beautiful, normal, and stable," added Mohsin. Bangladesh is observing a three-day state mourning period for the 80-year-old, who shaped the country's politics for decades. Her political party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is observing a seven-day mourning period until next Tuesday. Bangladesh's first female PM, Khaleda Zia, passed away at Evercare Hospital in the capital on December 30 after undergoing treatment for about 40 days. On Wednesday, thousands of mourners, government officials, and foreign dignitaries attended her funeral at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building in Dhaka."
