Asian Woman Jailed 15 Years For Smuggling Over 2 Kg Of Marijuana Into Bahrain

The First High Criminal Court has sentenced a 27-year-old Asian woman to 15 years in prison, fined her BD10,000, and ordered her deportation after completion of her sentence, in addition to confiscating the seized drugs. The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with importing and possessing marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, in violation of Bahrain’s anti-narcotics laws, during 2025. According to case details, customs officers at Bahrain International Airport became suspicious of a large backpack arriving from an Asian country in the early hours of October 4, 2025. X-ray screening revealed unusual density within the bag, prompting officers to refer it to the red channel for inspection. Upon searching the luggage in the presence of the defendant, customs officers discovered eight medium-sized wrapped packages concealed among clothes. The packages contained compressed herbal material suspected to be marijuana. Subsequent examination confirmed the substance weighed approximately 2.29 kilograms.
