(UPDATE) THE Manila Police District (MPD) released a traffic advisory on Friday, announcing road closures for the upcoming procession or Traslacion for the Feast of Jesus Nazareno (Black Nazarene) on Jan. 9. In a Facebook post, the MPD announced that major roads will be closed from 9 p.m. on Jan. 8 until the annual Traslacion concludes. Among the roads scheduled for closure are Bonifacio Drive (northbound and southbound), Katigbak Drive and South Drive (where only one lane will remain accessible to Manila Hotel and H2O Hotel), Independence Road, P. Burgos Avenue, Finance Road, Maria Orosa Street, Taft Avenue, Romualdez Street, Ayala Boulevard, C. Palanca Street, P. Casal Street, Legarda Street, Quezon Boulevard, and Lerma Street, as well as McArthur Bridge and Jones Bridge. To help ease congestion, alternative routes have been designated. Those traveling on Mel Lopez Boulevard (R-10) toward Roxas Boulevard will be rerouted via Capulong Street, Yuseco Street, and Lacson Avenue. Motorists who will be coming from A. Mendoza Street bound for Quezon Boulevard will be diverted to Fugoso Street and Rizal Avenue. Vehicles from España Boulevard heading to Quezon Boulevard will be redirected through N. Reyes Street and C.M. Recto Avenue, while those intending to use McArthur Bridge from Rizal Avenue will be rerouted to C.M. Recto Avenue and Legarda Street. Those traveling from J. Abad Santos Avenue or R. Regente toward Intramuros are advised to pass through San Fernando Street, Madrid Street, and Muelle de la Industria, or take Juan Luna Street toward the Binondo–Intramuros Bridge. Light vehicles coming from Bonifacio Drive will be directed to Anda Circle before turning left to A. Soriano Avenue. For northbound traffic, vehicles coming from A. Mabini Street and Maria Orosa Street, and heading toward T.M. Kalaw Avenue, will be diverted to UN Avenue, P. Guanzon Street, and Mabini Bridge. Those traveling northbound on Taft Avenue toward P. Burgos Avenue will also be rerouted via UN Avenue and Mabini Bridge. Trucks and trailers traveling northbound on Osmeña Highway or Roxas Boulevard, and bound for Mel Lopez Boulevard or the Pier area, will be diverted to President Quirino Avenue and Mabini Bridge, following the old truck route. Light vehicles traveling northbound on Roxas Boulevard toward P. Burgos Avenue will be redirected to UN Avenue and Mabini Bridge. Motorists are advised to be familiar with the road closure. The MPD added that additional streets may temporarily close as the event approaches.
