"A massive three-alarm fire tore through a large apartment building under construction Friday night, lighting up the skyline near the Denver-Glendale border in Colorado. Footage shows emergency crews racing toward the glow as towering flames and thick smoke rise above the horizon. The blaze was reported to the Denver Fire Department just after 19:00 GMT on January 2, at a construction site near Leetsdale Drive and South Holly Street. Officials said the unfinished structure lacked fire-suppression systems and interior drywall, allowing flames to spread rapidly and forcing a swift upgrade to a three-alarm response. Just before 19:20 GMT, authorities issued a Wireless Emergency Alert ordering evacuations across roughly 20 residential blocks, from Alameda Avenue south to East Cherry Creek South Drive. By 21:00 GMT, fire officials said crews were focused on exposure protection, working to prevent the intense heat from igniting occupied buildings nearby. By late Friday night, officials estimated about 70 per cent containment, warning hot spots could smoulder for several days. No injuries were reported among civilians or the more than 100 firefighters on scene. Investigators have not yet been able to enter the unstable remains to determine a cause.
