"For the first time since the war broke out in Gaza, a young Palestinian man dressed as Santa Claus made his way through war-ravaged buildings to bring smiles to displaced children at temporary shelters. Footage captured on Friday shows Santa entertaining the children, handing out sweets, shaking hands, and singing seasonal songs, as their cheers echoed across the site. “We were overjoyed to see Santa, and the children were thrilled and entertained. We haven’t seen such happiness in two years,” said displaced resident Mahmoud Abu Obied. Organiser Marwan Murad explained the purpose behind donning the Santa costume. “I wanted to bring joy to these children. They deserve to live and celebrate like children everywhere. We create happiness amid the rubble and send it out to the world.” The ceasefire, agreed between Hamas and Israel, came into effect on Friday, 10 October. It forms part of the wider ‘20-Point Trump Plan’, which calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the release of all hostages—living and deceased—and the delivery of humanitarian aid."
