"Member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Vahid Ahmadi, on Saturday addressed a warning from US President Donald Trump that Washington would intervene if peaceful protesters were killed in Iran amid nationwide anti-government protests. “The Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared for any kind of defence, and if anyone were to make a miscalculation, the Islamic Republic of Iran will respond with full force. Therefore, in my opinion, from this perspective and viewpoint, we have no concerns,” Ahmadi stated during an interview in Tehran. “If you look at the domestic situation in the US, it is very fragile. The domestic situation of the Zionist regime is also very fragile. Therefore, I don’t think they will actually take this risk and act on it,” he added. The comments came on the same day that Washington carried out an operation in Venezuela and subsequently detained President Maduro and his wife, transferring both to New York to face charges of participation in drug trafficking. On Venezuela, Ahmadi noted, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has a consistent policy and believes that the people of every country can and should make decisions about their own destiny. Therefore, it depends on what path the people of Venezuela will follow in the future.” The official’s remarks come days after Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, warning, 'If Iran shoots the protesters, the United States of America will come to their rescue.' Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, swiftly dismissed Trump’s pledges as 'false and deceptive' during a speech in Tehran on Saturday."
