'Clearly false rhetoric' — Protesters on Canary Islands blast 'bully' Trump over Venezuela attack

"Demonstrators took to the streets of Las Palmas, Canary Islands, on Sunday to denounce the recent US operation in Venezuela and express support for Nicolas Maduro. Marchers carried banners reading 'Trump, get out of Venezuela' and 'Canary Islands with the Bolivarian Venezuela', chanting in solidarity with the Maduro administration. Aisha Hernandez, a protester, said the majority of Venezuelans "will stand up to imperialism and will not allow any government that serves foreign interests to come to power in Venezuela." "They will defend it with their lives if necessary," she added. Other participants criticised the narrative presented by the United States regarding Venezuela’s alleged links to drug trafficking. Catherine Hernandez argued that "all this fabrication that has been constructed since 2020, based on a false narrative that drug cartels govern Venezuela, has no basis whatsoever, even in the DEA's own reports." The demonstration also highlighted broader regional concerns. Lourdes Urbaneja described Trump as "the classroom bully, taking whatever he wants." Throughout the rally, participants waved Venezuelan flags, held anti-imperialist banners, and voiced their opposition to US interference, as footage shows. It comes after the US launched 'large-scale' strikes on Venezuela on Saturday, and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. US Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Venezuelan leader was charged with a 'narco-terrorism conspiracy' and other drug and weapons charges. Caracas declared a national emergency, blasting the US over its attempt to "seize Venezuela's strategic resources, particularly its oil and minerals." The attack drew widespread worldwide condemnation, including from Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Chile and others in Latin America, as well as from BRICS nations like Russia and China. The EU and European nations called for 'international law' to be respected."
