"Former presidential candidate Calin Georgescu warned that the US military operation in Venezuela and capture of President Nicolas Maduro could spread beyond Latin America while speaking to reporters in Buftea on Monday. "Today it is Venezuela, tomorrow it will be Western Europe, and maybe Eastern Europe before the sun rises," he said. "Six months ago, I said that the United States of America is returning to the Monroe Doctrine. This is confirmed by a recent foreign policy document issued by the White House and by what happened in Venezuela the other day," he added. Georgescu described US President Donald Trump as a 'man of action' who does not tolerate what he called stolen elections or countries being taken over by 'mafia and globalist networks.' The former candidate made the remarks outside a police station in Buftea, where he is required to report monthly as part of a judicial review procedure. Maduro was grabbed by US forces alongside First Lady Cilia Flores in the early hours of Saturday, after strikes on Caracas and other areas - and held, according to Washington, on 'narcoterrorism' charges. Court proceedings with US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein are scheduled for 12:00 local time (17:00 GMT). Donald Trump has vowed that his team will 'run' Venezuela and have US oil firms take charge - warning VP Delcy Rodriguez she'd pay a 'very big price' if she didn't co-operate. Caracas declared a national emergency, accusing Washington of attempting to "seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, particularly its oil and minerals." The attack drew widespread condemnation worldwide, including from many countries in Latin America, as well as from BRICS nations such as Russia and China, and around the world. The EU and European nations called for 'international law' to be respected, but avoided directly condemning the US actions."
