? Live: UN Security Council holds emergency meeting on Venezuela after US strikes, Maduro capture

"The UN Security Council meets in New York City after United States strikes on Venezuelan military bases and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on Monday, January 5. Colombia requested the session with the support of Russia and China after the United States removed President Maduro from power on Saturday. Maduro and his wife were indicted in New York City on charges related to narco-terrorism. Washington said the operation was designed to protect regional security and would remain in Venezuela until a 'safe, proper and judicious transition' of power could take place. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, said that the action set a dangerous precedent and emphasised the importance of respecting international law and the UN Charter. The Council had already met twice, in October and December, amid rising tensions between the United States and Venezuela."
