India has reported 11 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu in Kerala last month, resulting in the death of over 54,000 birds, primarily ducks. Authorities culled an additional 30,000 birds as a precautionary measure. These outbreaks, detected in December, mark the first poultry infections since May.
