China 'deeply shocked by bullying behaviour' of US on Venezuela and 'strongly condemns it' - Beijing's rep at UNSC

"Beijing said it was 'deeply shocked by bullying behaviour' of the United States, as the UNSC held discussions on the US attack on Venezuela - and capture of president Nicolas Maduro on Monday. "Change course and stop bullying and coercive actions, and develop relations and cooperation with regional countries based on mutual respect, equality, and non-interference in internal affairs," the country's representative insisted. Maduro was grabbed by US forces alongside First Lady Cilia Flores in the early hours of Saturday, after strikes on Caracas and other areas - and held, according to DC on 'narcoterrorism' charges. Caracas declared a national emergency, accusing Washington of attempting to "seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, particularly its oil and minerals." The attack drew widespread condemnation worldwide, including from Latin America, as well as from BRICS nations such as Russia and China and around the world. The EU and European nations called for 'international law' to be respected but avoided directly condemning the US actions. "
