Bangladesh have formally declined to play their T20 World Cup matches in India due to security concerns, prompting the International Cricket Council (ICC) to consider changes to the tournament’s schedule and venues, Aaj News reported. According to Indian media reports, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially informed the ICC that it will not send its team to India for the T20 World Cup. A BCB spokesperson said the decision was taken due to security concerns for players and officials. The spokesperson said an emergency meeting of the BCB board of directors was convened, during which consultations were held with the government. Ensuring the safety of players and officials, the spokesperson added, was unavoidable under the current circumstances. The BCB has also formally requested the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s World Cup matches to another country, citing the prevailing situation. Sources said that after Bangladesh’s decision, the ICC has begun reviewing possible changes to the World Cup schedule and match venues, although a final decision is expected at a later stage.
