"Cuba's UN representative slammed 'cowardly American aggression against Venezuela' during a heated session of the UNSC on Monday. "Mr President, the cowardly American aggression against Venezuela is a criminal act, in violation of the international law and the UN Charter," he said. "It constitutes a dangerous escalation of the war campaign sustained for years by the United States against that sister nation, which intensified since September 2025 with the aggressive naval deployment in the Caribbean Sea under false pretences and baseless accusations, without any evidence." "The military attack by the United States against Venezuela has no justification, it does not respond to any provocation nor does it have legitimacy," the country's representative added. Nicolas Maduro was grabbed by US forces alongside First Lady Cilia Flores in the early hours of Saturday, after strikes on Caracas and other areas - and held, according to DC on 'narcoterrorism' charges. Caracas declared a national emergency, accusing Washington of attempting to "seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, particularly its oil and minerals." At the UNSC, the US insisted that there was 'no war against Venezuela' and called it a 'surgical law enforcement operation'. Other countries, including Russia, China and Colombia condemned the latest military action. Russian UN representative Vassily Nebenzia said there was 'no justification for US crimes in Venezuela' while China's representative added that the country was 'deeply shocked by bullying behaviour' from Washington. The African A3 said it had 'deep concerns'. Saturday's attack drew widespread condemnation worldwide, including from Latin America, BRICS nations and around the world. The EU and European nations called for 'international law' to be respected but mostly avoided directly condemning the US actions."
