Ross and Matt Duffer, the co-creators of Stranger Things Stranger Things creator Matt Duffy is calling on fans to go easy on him if they’re not happy with answers he’s given in the wake of the recent season finale. As is so often the case with franchises as popular as Stranger Things, the Netflix sci-fi drama’s recent final episode has divided opinion among fans , many of whom were left with a few questions after watching it . Speaking on the podcast Happy Sad Confused , Duffer admitted that he regrets speaking to the press so soon after Stranger Things came to an end. “I really shouldn’t have done any of these postmortem interviews,” he claimed, admitting he was “not in a good place” at the time due to a number of factors. “Why the hell did we do any of them yesterday is beyond me,” Duffer continued. “I’m, like, fried. I was getting over the flu. “So, anyone mad at any answers we gave you yesterday, just cut me some slack.” The Stranger Things finale premiered on New Year’s Day, and in the days since, viewers have been debating various aspects of the show’s ending . In particular, a theory that’s come to be known as “Conformity Gate” within the Stranger Things fan community has only grown increasingly more popular, with those who believe in it insisting that a bonus episode of the show is due to hit Netflix on Wednesday 7 January. For the time being, the streaming platform has remained tight-lipped on the speculation, but one thing we do know is that fans have a new Stranger Things documentary to look forward to next week , which follows the cast and crew as they shoot the show’s fifth and final season. The Duffer Brothers have also made no secret of the fact they’re weighing up possible spin-offs, one of which – the animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 – will debut on Netflix later in 2026.
