Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (Republican, Georgia) on Monday decried President Donald Trump on CNN for bombing Venezuela and forcibly removing its leader Nicolás Maduro — noting she helped elect Trump to stop such “globalist” behaviour. Greene discussed the “concerning” trajectory of his administration on The Source. “We can say thankfully that Maduro has been arrested, we can say we’re happy for the Venezuelan people, but we can also look to all the regime changes before — in Iraq and Libya and Syria — and we said the same things for the people of those countries,” she said . Greene continued, “But then watched those countries fall into turmoil and civil war and we’ve watched the rise of ISIS and terrorism, and we watched US troops remain in those countries for a very long time and many flag-draped coffins come home.” The Georgia Republican added that this is precisely what “many Americans don’t want” in regard to Venezuela, and that “it is disturbing to see the latest news” coming out of the South American country “where there is chaos and possibly some sort of civil war.” The Trump administration has launched deadly strikes on alleged drug boats from Venezuela since September, maintaining that the aim is to stop the flow of illicit narcotics such as fentanyl — which the South American country doesn’t produce — into the US. The administration has also seized oil tankers from Venezuela , which holds the largest proven oil reserves in the world. Trump confirmed during an interview Saturday after Maduro’s capture that the US will be “strongly involved” in “the future” of Venezuela’s oil. He told NBC News on Monday that “MAGA loves what I’m doing.” When asked about that claim, Greene told Collins that she voted for Trump in all three recent presidential elections — but that she specifically voted for his campaign promises of “no more foreign wars, no more regime change and putting the American people first.” “We care about people, but we care about our country too,” said Greene, adding that the focus should be “to help Americans afford life, afford health care, health insurance, be able to buy a home — an affordable home — and live the American dream.” Former Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez is now serving as the country’s interim leader , and not Maduro’s chief opposition figure and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado, although Trump has said the US will “run” Venezuela until a “transition” can take place. “I would like to see our elected president and vice president and his administration running America,” Greene told Collins about that announcement. “I think that’s most important for the American people and our interest, and we have real problems here at home.” Greene has been a MAGA darling for years, but broke with Trump over his support of the “big, beautiful bill” that kicked millions of people off of Medicaid — and over his hesitance to release classified documents on late child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein . “Venezuela belongs to the Venezuelan people, and they should elect their own government leaders,” she said on Monday. “We have elected our government leaders, the Trump administration, and we have elected them to run American — not to be globalist.” Greene continued, “Not to run other countries. Not to pursue regime change and foreign wars. We very much need our government and our government leaders to focus on the American people and the issues that we care about on Main Street, USA.” CORRECTION: This story has been amended to accurately reflect how Delcy Rodríguez became interim president of Venezuela.
