‘This is not about human rights’ - Activist interrupts OAS session in Washington to protest against US military intervention in Venezuela

"An activist disrupted an extraordinary session of the Organisation of American States (OAS) in Washington on Tuesday to voice her opposition to US military intervention in Venezuela. US Ambassador to the OAS, Leandro Rizzuto, was speaking when he was interrupted by a woman, unofficially identified as a member of feminist group CodePink. The activist claimed that the US military operation, which resulted in the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, was motivated by an interest in oil. “This is not about human rights..[ ]... This is about stealing Venezuelan oil. The majority of American people are against this. Seventy percent do not want to invade another country,” she was heard saying during the session. Following the incident, Luis Ernesto Vargas, President of the OAS Permanent Council, suspended the session until the woman was removed from the venue by security agents. During the session, representatives from countries such as Mexico, Chile, and Brazil also spoke out against US interference in Venezuela, which resulted in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on Saturday. After their detention, the Venezuelan president was transferred to New York for his first court appearance on Monday, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, including alleged narco terrorism conspiracy."
