"Malaysia’s former Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad, has been hospitalised after suffering a hip fracture following a fall at his residence early on Tuesday morning. It is understood that the 100-year-old former leader was taken by ambulance to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur for treatment. Well-wishers from the local community have been quick to react to the news. One resident expressed hope that the former leader would soon be back on his feet, saying: “I would like to wish Tun Mahathir a speedy recovery. May he continue to contribute to the nation’s development in the future.” “I came to know that Tun M (Tun Mahathir) suffered some kind of fracture. I wish Tun M a speedy recovery,” another local added. The former leader has a well-documented history of heart problems, having undergone bypass surgeries in 1989 and 2007. His health has been closely monitored in recent years, with several admissions to the IJN. His most recent stay occurred in July last year, when he was treated for fatigue following a picnic and potluck event held in Putrajaya, to celebrate his 100th birthday and the 99th birthday of his wife, Dr Hasmah Ali. Mahathir served two terms as Prime Minister, the first lasting 22 years. He returned to power in 2018, leading an opposition coalition to a landmark victory, though the administration collapsed in less than two years due to internal political instability."
