"US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem defended the ICE agent who shot and killed a woman in south Minneapolis on Wednesday, saying he acted in self-defence. "Our officer followed his training, did exactly what he's been taught to do in that situation, and took actions to defend himself and defend his fellow law enforcement officers," she stated during a press conference in Minneapolis. Noem said that the 37-year-old US citizen was 'harassing and impeding law enforcement operations,' and claimed that she had struck the officer with her vehicle. "He went to the hospital. A doctor did treat him. He has been released, but he's going to spend some time with his family," the secretary added. Noem was in Minneapolis to oversee and provide updates on 'Operation Metro Surge,' which DHS has described as the 'largest immigration operation ever,' deploying roughly 2,000 additional federal agents to the area. According to local media, the citizen was in her SUV monitoring federal enforcement activity when agents approached. An ICE officer then fired at least three shots through the windshield as the vehicle moved forward, striking her in the head. She was later pronounced dead at Hennepin Healthcare. ICE authorities described the incident as an 'act of domestic terrorism', claiming the woman 'weaponised her vehicle' and attempted to run over agents. President Donald Trump defended the ICE agent, saying he was acting in 'self defence' and asserting that the woman was a 'obviously a professional agitator.' "The woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer," the President wrote on social media, adding that 'the situation is being studied in its entirety.' Meanwhile, Mayor Jacob Frey rejected claims that the agent acted in self-defence, calling them a 'garbage narrative,' and insisting ICE should 'get out of Minneapolis.' The incident is currently under investigation by the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA)."
