Critics Are Calling Netflix's New Thriller His & Hers Your Next Binge-Watch

Tessa Thompson in His & Hers, a new thriller streaming on Netflix We’re merely days into 2026 , and Netflix already has a new delicious binge watch. Critics are calling His & Hers – which arrived on the streaming platform on Thursday morning – the most twisty, intoxicating new show on streaming services right now. The six-part adaptation of Alice Feeney’s 2020 bestseller stars The Bear ’s Jon Bernthal as a small-town detective and Marvel star Tessa Thompson as a TV news anchor, who must come together to navigate a violent crime they both have a fraught history with. But His & Hers is not your standard detective drama. While the setup seems familiar, the show goes on shocking tangents and delivers turns you won’t expect, as there is more than meets the eye when it comes to this crime-solving duo. Here’s a selection of what the critics are saying about His & Hers so far… Variety “A delectable, detailed story spotlighting revenge, women’s rage and deceit, His & Hers seeps into your psyche, shifting everything you thought you knew.” The Guardian (3/5) “The twists, they are plentiful. The absurdities, they multiply. The viewerly enjoyment, it increases. The script – intoxicating mercenariness aside – is serviceable. The endeavour is bingeable. Nobody needs more, this early in the year. His-and-hers comfort television is enough.” Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson's performances in His & Hers have both been singled out for praise Wall Street Journal “A lurid tale of misadventure, moral bankruptcy and mean girls, His & Hers has other qualities, too, notably Tessa Thompson, whose recent turn in Hedda haunts her role in this potboiler.” Digital Spy “His & Hers is mostly driven by female characters whose moral compasses all point in different directions, so it does put everyone on a fairly equal footing. We can then forgive it some of its misgivings; it’s fun to relish unlikable characters, and to give yourself over to something that’s clearly not grounded in the real world.” The Daily Beast “For most of its six episodes, His & Hers lets viewers think they’re one step ahead of the action. It’s a welcome relief, then, that in its final 20 minutes, the series drops a whopper of a bombshell that reconfigures everything that preceded it and, in the process, turns the project campy.” IGN (9/10) “Plotwise, what follows is a pretty typical mystery that sees bodies pile up, secrets revealed, and more than a few expository flashbacks. But that’s where the similarities between His & Hers and most psychological thrillers end.” Collider “If you love a show with twists and turns, then His & Hers doesn’t disappoint. While the murder is obviously what will draw you in, it’s the deeply complicated, mysterious, and baggage-filled dynamic between Anna and Jack that’ll really keep your attention.” His & Hers looks set to be the latest hit for Netflix ScreenRant “His & Hers is intentionally layered, and connecting the dots towards the much-anticipated reveal is rewarding and blatantly shocking.” Tech Advisor (3.5/5) “There’s nothing here you haven’t seen before, but His & Hers is worth watching nonetheless. In large part, that’s thanks to superstars Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal who elevate the writing and ground every twist, no matter how absurd things get.” The Sydney Morning Herald (3.5/5) “It’s clever with its dumbness. You will think you have cracked this long before the rainy night finale, but you are wrong.” Time “Arch at some moments and grim at others, the show ultimately works as neither a self-aware black comedy nor a poignant exploration of the not-at-all-funny traumas it uncovers.” Jon Bernthal plays a small-town detective in the new Netflix series His & Hers The Hollywood Reporter “Episodes are bound together by banal introductory voice over, in which our narrator recites ominous clichés that, like everything in His & Hers, border on parody.” Looper “Where the ending of His & Hers straddles the line between good and bad in an interesting  fashion, most of the show up until that point falls in the much less exciting middle ground of mere mediocrity.” All six episodes of His & Hers are now streaming on Netflix.
