Sen. Bong Go aids Makati fire victims, highlights disaster preparedness law

SEN. Bong Go provided assistance on Monday to families affected by a recent fire in Makati City. Go’s Malasakit Team distributed aid to 29 families at the Guadalupe Nuevo Sports Complex. Relief items included cash, food packs, snacks, water containers, vitamins, shirts, electric fans, and sports balls for children. In a video message, Go emphasized the importance of strengthening government preparedness for natural and man-made disasters through the implementation of Republic Act (RA) 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act. Signed into law on Dec. 6, 2024, the measure mandates the establishment of permanent, safe, and adequately equipped evacuation centers in all cities and municipalities nationwide. As the principal author and co-sponsor of the law, Go stressed that institutionalized evacuation facilities are vital to ensuring the safety, dignity, and orderly recovery of families displaced by disasters such as fires, floods, and earthquakes. “I am pleading with my colleagues in the government. Give priority to evacuation centers because this is the law, rather than wasting money on flood control that is being used as a milking cow for a few,” Go said, speaking in Filipino.
