Teen caught selling baby on Facebook

A 17-YEAR-OLD girl was apprehended by authorities for attempting to sell her one-month-old baby for P55,000 via Facebook, the National Authority for Child Care (NACC) said on Thursday. NACC Executive Director Janella Ejercito Estrada said the arrest of the mother and rescue of the baby were done in coordination with the Philippine National Police-Women and Children Protection Center. The entrapment was conducted at a restaurant along Kamias Road, Quezon City, on Tuesday. Estrada said the mother would be charged with violating Republic Act (RA) 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, and RA 7610, or the Child Abuse Law. “As the NACC is firm in its campaign against illegal adoption and child trafficking and exploitation through online baby selling, we also need to underscore the critical importance of providing support mechanisms for adolescent mothers,” Estrada said. Earlier this week, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, NACC’s mother agency, announced the inclusion of the Psycho-social Support and Other Interventions for Adolescent Mothers and their Families (ProtecTEEN) in its 2026 priority programs. “The goal of ProtecTEEN is to empower young mothers, engage their families, and create a supportive environment to ensure that they can navigate their circumstances and become productive members of society, thereby safeguarding their rights and the future of their children,” Estrada said.
