Malabon City aids 64 families displaced by fire

SIXTY-FOUR families displaced by a fire in Barangay Potrero, Malabon, on Sunday have received financial aid from the city government. "I totally sympathize with the affected families regarding what happened as the new year begins. That is why we immediately set aside funds from the city coffers to help them start rebuilding their damaged shelters, among other things,” Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said. City Administrator Alexander Rosete said the mayor gave P10,000 each to 16 owners of burned structures, P5,000 each to 40 whose dwellings were totally burned down, and P3,000 to eight whose houses sustained partial damage. The aid distribution was held at Potrero Elementary School, where the fire victims are temporarily staying. The Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office installed a mobile bathing facility, while City Health Department personnel conducted medical consultations and necessary interventions. The city government advised residents not to overload electrical outlets, to regularly inspect faulty or exposed wiring, to turn off electrical appliances when not in use, to store flammable materials properly, and to keep matches, lighters, and candles away from children.
