Morocco is natural favourite… we will try to challenge them! - Cameroon coach Pagou manages expectations ahead of AFCON quarter final

"Cameroon head coach David Pagou during a press conference in Rabat on Thursday, acknowledged the challenge awaiting his team, the 'Indomitable Lions', against Morocco, ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal. "We are never going to say here that Cameroon is the favourite, because Morocco is the natural favourite. They were World Cup semi-finalists. We know we will have a difficult match against a very good team. We will try to challenge them," he said. Cameroon forward Christian Kofane described the African Cup as 'a childhood dream come true', stressing that his team is fully focused and determined to face the tough challenge. On the Moroccan side, head coach Walid Regragui highlighted a new mindset within his team. "Cameroon, against Morocco in general, has been a 'bogey team' for the national side. You eliminated our team here at home in 1988, in the semi-finals," Regragui noted. "But the past is the past. I've always said we are the 'New Morocco'. So, what happened before no longer exists. The last match we met, I believe Morocco won," he continued. Regragui added that Cameroon would enter the match highly motivated, treating the Africa Cup of Nations as a full tournament after their early elimination from the World Cup group stage. Cameroon vs. Morocco match is set for Friday, January 9, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. The winner will advance to the semifinals to face either Algeria or Nigeria."
