Stuff NZ wakes up as heat alerts in some areas take hold, Blenheim airport hits nearly 30C
The alerts were in place by MetService for Whakatāne, Napier, Hastings, Motueka, Blenheim and Kaikōura for Friday and the weekend where temperatures in the low to mid thirties were expected.
