'Destined to work, live, evolve together' - Senegalese PM urges deeper partnership with Mauritania as relations enter 'Golden Era' of co-op

"Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko called to deepen and strengthen cooperation between Dakar and Nouakchott at a joint press conference with his Mauritanian counterpart, Moctar Ould Djay, on Thursday in Dakar. 'We are destined to work, live, and evolve together,' he said. 'We will continue to consolidate, and both parties reaffirmed their desire to continue collaborating.' 'Today, we must make choices. Whether we act together or separately, sooner or later, we will be drawn into a competitive dynamic that is not beneficial for any of us. Or we commit to a collaboration that is highly beneficial for both our countries," Sonko said, adding, "We have decided to work together so as not to turn our borders into areas of tension." The meeting focused on shared border management, exploration and responsible exploitation of natural resources and bilateral trade. Djay arrived in Dakar on Thursday for a two-day official visit. It follows the Senegalese Prime Minister's trip to Nouakchott in January last year."
