‘I heard people trapped inside shouting for help’ - Rescuers scramble after landfill collapse in Philippines leaves at least 3 dead *DISTRESSING*

"A mountain of rubbish collapsed at the Binaliw Landfill in Cebu City on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of at least three people, while 35 others remain missing. Authorities say a further 12 people are being treated for injuries. Drone footage reveals the scale of the Binaliw landslide, after vast swathes of compacted garbage came cascading down, engulfing structures in their path. Drone visuals show a twisted metal structure and a pile of rubble at the site of a collapsed waste segregation facility. Junel Arcilla, whose house is just a stone's throw from the landslide area, recounted the terrifying moments as the disaster unfolded. "I thought it was an earthquake, but when I got out of my house, I saw the collapsed building due to the garbage landslide," Arcilla said. "I heard the people trapped inside shouting for help, and then I went up and posted on social media that we need help." Amidst the chaos, affected families shared their shock and grief at the disaster. "My brother, Randy Kabag, and his brother-in-law, Jestoni Horya, were caught in the landslide here in Binaliw," Maria Kareen Ann Rubin said, with tears streaming down her face. "Until now, their bodies haven't been found — we are hoping to recover them even if they are just corpses.” Maria pleaded to maintain the rescue operation so that the families could give a proper burial to their loved ones. Nora Ople, 65, also shared her harrowing experience. "I heard my sibling's child crying out for help. But I couldn't do anything, so I went around everywhere to ask for help.” Rescue operations are still underway as relief workers race against time to find survivors or recover the victims."
