'Venezuelan people thank you for your bravery' - Acting president Rodriguez hails global support after US strikes

"Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, thanked on Friday Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Colombian leader Gustavo Petro and the Emir of Qatar for their support following what she described as US aggression, speaking during the inauguration of a comprehensive care centre in Caracas. Rodriguez gave special thanks to Spain's Pedro Sanchez for condemning the recent US strikes and reaffirming the country's interest in strengthening cooperation with Venezuela. "Today I held a conversation with the president of the government of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, who reaffirmed his willingness for joint work between Spain and Venezuela. And I told him that the Venezuelan people thanked his bravery," she commented. Rodriguez also highlighted her conversation with Colombian President Gustavo Petro and underscored the historic brotherhood that exists between both nations. "I have also spoken with President Petro of Colombia. That we march together along a single path and can address challenges and common problems of our countries," Rodriguez said. She also thanked Brazil's president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, saying he closely followed events on January 3, when US military strikes in Caracas led to the capture of Nicolas Maduro and his wife. "I also want to deeply thank the president of Brazil, Lula da Silva, who on the same day of the aggression was very attentive to Venezuela, to the president, to the first combatant, to our people. He was very concerned about this unequal and illegitimate armed aggression," commented the acting president. Rodriguez acknowledged the emir of Qatar, saying Qatari diplomacy helped secure the first confirmation of life for President Nicolas Maduro and first lady Cilia Flores after US attacks. "I do not want to fail to thank the emir of Qatar, who helped. He, his government, his prime minister, to obtain the first proof of life of the president and the first combatant," Delcy Rodriguez said. The politician announced that the Venezuelan government and the US representatives are exploring channels to reopen their embassies in Caracas and Washington to reactivate bilateral relations. This comes after the Venezuelan government said it has begun exploratory diplomatic talks with the United States to work toward reopening embassies that have been closed since relations were severed in 2019 amid political tensions."
