Dribbling into trouble - Police clash with football fans on Champs-Elysees after Morocco's AFCON win over Cameroon

"Chaos engulfed Champs-Elysees in Paris on Friday, as police dispersed crowds of football fans who convened to celebrate Morocco's AFCON quarterfinal victory over Cameroon. Footage shows police advancing, making several arrests, and deploying units in vehicles to monitor traffic. Fans bearing Moroccan flags and jerseys were forced to cut short their celebrations due to the intervention. Officers ordered supporters to leave the area, warning that the gathering was an 'unlawful assembly' under the prefectural order and that violations could result in a €135 ($157) fine. The Paris police prefecture issued an order banning supporter gatherings in a wide area around the Champs‑Elysees, from the Louvre to Avenue Foch, between January 9 and 11. The order also prohibited fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices, citing previous celebrations linked to African competitions and North African teams that were marred by incidents and damage. It comes after Morocco defeated Cameroon 2-0 in the AFCON quarterfinal in Rabat, with goals by Brahim Diaz and Ismael Saibari sending the Atlas Lions through to the semifinal. They will face either Algeria or Nigeria in the next round after their quarterfinal on Saturday. The semifinal matches of the AFCON will take place on January 14."
