"The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) claimed that Seoul launched drones into its airspace, warning that the ROK would 'pay a high price' for the move on Friday. "On January 4, the Korean People's Army sub-units on duty for border air surveillance detected and tracked an air target moving northward in the sky over the area of Hado-ri, Songhae-myon, Kanghwa County of Inchon City," General Staff of the Korean People's Army spokesperson stated as cited by state media KCNA. "They tactically allowed it to fly 8 km into the DPRK's airspace and struck it with special electronic warfare assets and forced it to fall," he continued. Released images show the wreckage of a drone scattered on the ground in a forest area. It also includes an aerial view of Kaesong city, which Pyongyang claims to be flight data retrieved from the drone. According to the spokesperson, a similar incident has already occurred on September 27, when DPRK forces brought down a drone allegedly flown from South Korea 'to film our side's major objects.' Seoul has strongly denied the claims, with the country's defence minister stressing on Saturday that the drone shown in pictures, released by DPRK, is not a model operated by South Korea. South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung ordered a thorough investigation into the case to ensure no private or unsanctioned groups were involved in the case. The agency cannot independently confirm the connection of the images to the claims made, or the location, date or exact nature of the objects shown in the stills."
