Award-winning Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz‘s recent appearance in the Criterion Closet has amused film fans online after he enthusiastically grabbed a bunch of movies while joking that he’s a “thief of cinema.”  The Criterion Closet is a video series by the Criterion Collection in Hollywood in which filmmakers, actors and creatives browse a small storage room filled with DVD releases and briefly discuss titles that influenced them.  Guests typically select only a few films, often three to five, while sharing personal anecdotes or recommendations, but Diaz walked away with 12 movies.  The Filipino director’s visit was posted on the home-video […]...
