Cold, dry 'amihan' winds prevail over Metro Manila, other Luzon areas

MANILA, Philippines – Cold, dry winds due to the northeast monsoon or ‘amihan’ would prevail within 24 hours over Metro Manila and some parts of Luzon, the state-run weather agency said Sunday. Weather specialist Robert Badrina said other affected areas include Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, the rest of CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan, where cloudy skies with light rain prevail. Meanwhile, the shear line or convergence of hot and cold air has been affecting Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon, where cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely, he said. In its 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur would have overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies. The rest of the country would likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also due to the easterlies— winds that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry humid and warm weather, according to the Pagasa forecaster.
