'Gringos are coming' - Thousands march in Mexico City to rally against US intervention in Venezuela

"Thousands of people took to the streets of Mexico City on Saturday to reject US intervention in Venezuela, following US President Donald Trump's warnings of an anti-drug crackdown in Mexico. Footage shows protesters marching while holding Venezuelan flags and signs such as 'Hands off Latin America by the imperialist beast'. Several graffiti across the city can be seen with messages saying 'Gringos are coming for your house' and 'Get the hell out.' "[The] kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro simply to extract the natural resources of the Venezuelan people. It is not a question of whether he is a dictator or a bad president; they simply want his resources. The empire is now unmasked," a protester remarked. "It is not acceptable for them to invade a country, cause deaths, and try to steal resources," another added. "More than seeking democracy or fighting drug trafficking, I think what they want is to steal the resources of those countries." Furthermore, demonstrators commented on Trump's recent statements suggesting the US's intentions to intervene militarily in Mexico. "Mexico has also already been sent a message, clearly. So we have to be prepared and go out to demonstrate, to say no in that sense," a protester said. Trump's threats come after the 'Absolute Resolve' operation in Venezuela to capture President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The Republican leader has warned that "something will have to be done with Mexico," since, according to him, the country is controlled by drug cartels. Likewise, the US president has indicated that Colombian President Gustavo Petro could be 'next' following Maduro's detention. However, tensions reportedly eased after a phone call in which they agreed to hold a meeting at the White House, without specifying a date."
