'We demand the immediate release!' - Protesters rally in Barcelona over Maduro capture, Trump's intervention in Latin America

"Dozens of demonstrators rallied outside the United States Consulate in Barcelona on Saturday, in their latest attempt to press for the release of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and to reject US intervention in Latin America. Footage shows activists waving flags and holding portraits of Maduro, along with placards among others reading, 'NATO no, bases out' and 'Yankees, get the hell out!' Demonstrators also read the manifesto, accusing US President Donald Trump of violating international law and criticising America's attack on Venezuela on January 3, 2026. "We demand the immediate release of the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife and member of the National Assembly, Filia Flores," an activist proclaimed. "With the objective publicly declared by Donald Trump of seizing its oil resources, energy resources, and other wealth is extremely serious. It violates international legitimacy and the Charter of the United Nations," he continued. The manifesto also accused Trump of broader actions affecting Latin America, including threatening the sovereignty of Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Peru, and Nigeria. They also denounced US involvement in Israeli military operations in Palestine, bombing nuclear facilities in Iran, and deporting Latin American migrants from the United States. Saturday's demonstration in Barcelona follows similar rallies across Europe, including in Amsterdam and Paris, where supporters of Maduro have protested against US intervention and urged respect for national sovereignty and international law."
