'This would lead to a very long and difficult war' - Jalisco residents reject US military intervention in Mexico amid Trump threats

"Residents in the Mexican town of Jalisco expressed their opposition to possible US military intervention in the country on Saturday after US President Donald Trump's threats. "Worrisome, I repeat, because it is not possible that a foreign nation has to tell a national president what to do and where her failures are," local Jonathan Fonseca said. He further warned that while military intervention could 'fight against drug trafficking', it could also lead to 'a very long and difficult war'. "I think it is always good to ask for support through all the international organizations and mechanisms that exist to request that proper support," another resident, Sebastian Rangel, commented. "But the way Trump is doing it in this case, I do not think it would help calm things down or truly eradicate the state of drug trafficking," he continued. US President Trump's threats come after the 'Absolute Resolve' operation in Venezuela to capture President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The Republican leader has warned that "something will have to be done with Mexico," since, according to him, the country is controlled by drug cartels. Likewise, the US president has indicated that Colombian President Gustavo Petro could be 'next' following Maduro's detention. However, tensions reportedly eased after a phone call in which they agreed to hold a meeting at the White House, without specifying a date."
