Caracas airport resumes flights after US lifts temporary airspace restrictions in Venezuela

"Simon Bolivar International Airport Maiquetia (CCS) in Caracas resumed international flights this week, following the lifting of air restrictions by the US and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. Footage filmed on Saturday shows passengers arriving at the airport while others prepare to board their flights. The resumption began on Monday after US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy removed limitations on Venezuelan airspace, allowing national airlines such as Laser Airlines to reactivate routes to Bogota, Curacao, and Madrid. Some Venezuelans welcomed the move, although they noted having to make stopovers from Caracas to other airports to leave the country. "I have to take a connecting flight to go to Spain. So that was a bit tedious because they kept changing my flight all the time," Maria Elena Machado, a Venezuelan citizen, remarked. "First February, then January, well, first December, then February, then January. They finally confirmed it for me today," she continued. Conviasa, Venezuela's state airline, maintains stable operations, resuming its scheduled itinerary after the suspensions announced by the US. However, regular direct commercial flights between the countries have not yet been confirmed."
