Adrenaline drift - Fushun’s ice karting wows visitors with high-speed winter fun

"Winter tourists are flocking to Fushun in China’s Liaoning province for a one-of-a-kind frozen thrill ride, where the calm of the season is replaced by engines roaring and tyres sliding on the track. At the heart of the region’s winter attractions, the Fushun Dream Ice Racing Track is turning the traditional winter break into an adrenaline-fuelled playground. Footage from Saturday shows thrill-seekers drifting on a sprawling 3-kilometre circuit carved straight into the ice, testing their skills in high-speed races that deliver a heart-pounding challenge. Regular visitor Mr Shi, who often comes during the winter break with his family, noted the track’s unique appeal. “This is quite different because the ice is so much more slippery. It isn't like racing on regular roads; the lack of grip makes it much more exciting,” he said, adding, “It feels fantastic.” The venue is well-equipped to handle the crowds, with a fleet of over 50 karts. For many locals and tourists, it has become the primary hub for winter socialising. “Fushun's ice activities are focused right here. With the Ice and Snow Carnival just ahead, you’re surrounded by things to do. If you don't want to stay cooped up at home all winter, you have to come out onto the ice,” said Ms Li, another visitor. The racing track is one of four major urban snow destinations in the district, alongside the Lei Feng Ice and Snow Carnival, the Ice and Snow Wonderland on the Hun River, and Xige Snow Playland, creating a comprehensive winter entertainment hub. Even for novices, the appeal is instant. Mr Ren, visiting the track for the first time after being brought along by a friend, described the experience as "incredibly thrilling and great fun." Beyond ice karting, the site integrates classic winter pastimes such as snow tubing, ice sledging, and snowmobiling to ensure a festive, family-friendly atmosphere. This year, Fushun has upgraded more than 30 venues across the region and is planning a calendar of professional ice racing and community events designed to draw tourists from across the country."
